The big question here is: what the heck is Bada? It’s a mobile phone platform from Samsung (Samsung!) that is outselling the much heralded and oft-delayed Windows Phone, according to a new report by Gartner. Bada makes up 1.9% of the world’s smart phone sales by platform compared to 1.6% for Microsoft. Meanwhile, Android is at 43.4%. All is not lost – at least not yet – for Microsoft because the number two platform is Nokia’s Symbian and the two companies are going to be working together a lot more in the future.

In news that is likely to make Marketplace Tech Report producer and Palm owner Larissa Anderson a little more sad, Palm didn’t sell well enough to make the rankings at all. Palm is the Thaddeus McCotter of the smart phone primaries.
