Viacom and Cablevision were engaged in a legal battle over whether Cablevision had the rights to direct content to its customers to an iPad app called Optimum App. When the app launched last April, Viacom sprung into action saying the iPad was a separate distribution device and therefore Cablevision had to acquire new rights to stream Viacom content through that channel. Wednesday, Viacom and Cablevision announced they settled the dispute. Reuters cites the companies’ joint statement: “Cablevision and Viacom were able to resolve the iPad matter and an unrelated business matter to their mutual satisfaction,” they said. “Neither side is conceding its original legal position or will have further comment.”
