Reps. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) and Greg Walden (R-Ore.) of the House Energy and Commerce committee start a series of Internet privacy hearings on Thursday. We’ve been hearing for some time that online privacy legislation is likely to pass this session. Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) introduced an online privacy bill earlier this year. Bono Mack has been all over the issue – she introduced a bill last month about data breach notification. With all the racket about the debt, it’s yet to be determined whether Congress can get its mind around pushing this kind of legislation through this session.
