George Jepsen is the Attorney General for Connecticut and he’s seeking a meeting with Facebook to discuss the company’s use of facial recognition software. Facebook has started using the technology in recent months. It scans photos you upload, analyzes the faces in the shots, and then suggests you tag the people it thinks can be identified. The problem Jepsen has is the same as a lot of people have: it’s opt out instead of opt in. That is, you’re face is automatically included in this capability and it’s up to you to go in and change that if you don’t want it to be. Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) has also voiced concern about this, along with many other things.
