It apparently happened over the weekend and was revealed late yesterday. Senate staffers say that it was a fairly low level attack on the public facing site for the Senate and didn’t reach past a firewall to more sensitive information. “The hackers may have done the equivalent of burglarizing the Senate and bragging because they managed to steal a bunch of souvenirs from the gift shop,” according to Stewart Baker, former cyber official at the Department of Homeland Security. LulzSec is apparently upset about the United States’ new position of treating cyber attacks as acts of war. This despite the fact that the position in question refers to attacks from other governments and not anonymous groups like LulzSec or Anonymous. Narcissism? From hackers? I’m shocked!
