Sounding like a broken record here, I know. Last week it was a Senate Judiciary subcommittee holding hearings on what Apple and Google were doing with that location data. This week it’s the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance looking into what Apple, Google, and Facebook are doing about privacy on mobile devices. Redundant? Kinda. Are tech companies completely forthcoming about privacy? Not really. Do politicians like to score points for being concerned? Sure. More hearings then? Yeah, why not. Facebook has been added to the mix because of its Places service. The hearings are led by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) who recently introduced a Do Not Track bill.
