Actually, I’m not sure that was financial advice. Well, my mother always said, “If you want something bad enough, save up your allowance.” Now it seems appropriate that I saved up my allowance to buy her that Mother’s Day gift.

And this year, Mother’s Day spending could reach over $16 billion. The average American is expected to shell out about a $140 on a gift. The National Confectioners Association says we buy around half-a-billion dollars of candy around Mother’s Day, about 140 million cards are exchanged, and we’ll spend another $2 billion on flowers!
