Finally, a decent use for 3D. No goggles required! Chip maker Intel unveiled a new chip that works with a 3D transistor instead of the old flat transistor. A lot of people who understand a lot more science than I do are very excited about this. The upshot for regular people is that this should make for smaller chips since they don’t have to be all flat and spread out and that could allow for smaller devices of all sorts. The new chips are also a lot more energy efficient which should mean better battery life for whatever they’re stuck into. The idea of this kind of transistor has been around for a while but Intel will be the first to start making it.
