It’s not just Apple tracking your every move through your phone

It's Google, too. Because of course it is….

It’s Google, too. Because of course it is.

The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday on the research that got everyone riled up on Wednesday about how Apple has been secretly tracking your every movements with the GPS in the iPhone, Google is doing the same thing through its Android phones.

From the Journal: “In the case of Google, according to new research by security analyst Samy Kamkar, an HTC Android phone collected its location every few seconds and transmitted the data to Google at least several times an hour. It also transmitted the name, location and signal strength of any nearby Wi-Fi networks, as well as a unique phone identifier.”

It’s the same kinds of info Google has gotten in trouble for collection all over the world from its Street View cars – now not on the road. Samy Kamkar is by the way the same guy who created the evercookie.
