Tax Tip: Take a deep breath

Tax Tip No. 6. Don’t Panic. That’s what Internal Revenue Commissioner Doug Shulman recommended last year for all those filers working through the weekend.

First of all, you should electronically file and get a direct deposit. If you do, you’ll get your refund within 10 days. Second is, even if you can’t pay everything you owe, file a return and then give us a call or attach a note to the return and we can work through issues with people — put them on an installment agreement, work them through a settlement. The last thing people want to do is disappear.
