Windows 8: goodbye toolbars, hello ribbons

Leaked screen shots of Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows 8, are beginning to circulate online. The most significant part of the new system seems to be the replacing of the traditional toolbar on explorer windows. So instead of all those command lines up at the top that you have to click on for a pull down menu, you get more of the options laid out for you in a graphic interface. The ribbon interface is already in use on later versions of Word and Excel, some people love it, some people hate it. It’s likely that in 8 you’ll get an option as the retraining begins in earnest.
Also of note, there seem to be a lot more syncing options with 8, more chances to post what you’re doing online, back it up into a cloud somewhere.
We’re moving to a world where our computers are more like terminals that connect us to a constantly whirring cloud.
Just thought you should know that.
No jet packs or rocket cars yet. I’ll keep you posted.
Jetson out.
