Does anyone else think the term “record label” is outdated? No comment on whether the institution is outdated. Anyway, Amazon’s new cloud service is getting some criticism because Amazon just launched the thing without going to the labels first to make sure it was okay. One can presume if they did that, it would have been much harder to launch. Amazon figured since it’s your music, you can listen to it wherever you want to. It’s like putting it on your own hard drive but it’s in the cloud. “We hope that they’ll reach a new license deal,” said a Sony spokesperson, “but we’re keeping all of our legal options open.” I would expect to hear from a lot more labels before this thing is over.

By the way, I started uploading my iTunes library last night. By the time I left for work this morning, it still had 16 hours to go.
