Chinese Gmail users are experiencing significant delays if not flat out inaccessibility lately and Google says it’s coming from the government. The company says all systems are go on their end, the search engine and the Gmail service are both running fine. A Google spokesman emailed Reuters, “There is no issue on our side, we have checked extensively …. This is a government blockage carefully designed to look like the problem is with Gmail.” It’s thought to be another installment of China’s ongoing effort to have tighter control and more censorship of what goes on online. Google has been hacked before by hackers believed to be working with the Chinese government. Gmail accounts of Chinese dissidents were accessed and material taken.
