For Marketplace Money, Friday, February 11, 2011

On this weekend before Valentine’s Day, we heard a story on the extra challenges faced by singles in the dating world when they’re unemployed — how do you pay for dinner and movie for two when you can barely afford it for one? Tess spoke with regular Money contributor Liz Pulliam Weston on her new book on the ’10 Commandments of Money.’ We heard about the complexities of reverse mortgages and of investing in index funds. There was an investigation into why banks take so long to deposit check, and some insight into why we’re asked for our zip codes at retailers’ cash registers. Tess and the Los Angeles Times’ David Lazarus answered listeners’ questions about finance, and we opened up another wallet. And here are the songs we played:

  • When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What’s Still Around – The PoliceBuy

  • Kong – BonoboBuy

  • I’m in Love with a Ripper – YachtBuy
