Kind of a dippy use for a technology but whatever, Google. Google Goggles is a visual recognition and search application that lets you do stuff like take a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge and get search results based on the software knowing what it’s looking at. In a new demo from Google, Goggles was able to recognize and solve Sudoku puzzles faster than a Sudoku champion. This means the technology is fast, resilient, and portable (they used an Android phone). Distressingly, it also reveals the existence of “Sudoku champions”. Google says Goggles has also been tweaked to provide instant recognition of bar codes so you can scan what you see and get product information and price comparisons. Engadget surmises that in taking up an interest in puzzles and coupons, Goggles has already entered middle age.
