The big Consumer Electronics Show officially kicks off tomorrow (though unofficially it’s more like today) and around 100 new tablet computers are expected to be trotted out. Samsung, Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, just about any name you associate with electronics will have a tablet, hoping to take a bite out of the dominance of the iPad (and more on iPad further down the memo). Will all these tablets still be on the market a year from now? Probably not. Not everyone will or even should survive the coming wave of tablets. But it will be interesting to see which ones catch on. iPad is a first mover, stylish, and works pretty well. At around $500 on the low end, it’s still more expensive than most of these tablets will be. But can the cheaper tablets support video, gaming, and web browsing as well as the iPad can?
