Pontiac: Then and Now

The 84-year-old Pontiac brand has reached the end of the road. Here's a look at Pontiac history.

Contracts between parent company General Motors and Pontiac dealers expired Sunday, the result of GM’s financial woes and a bailout deal with the U.S. Treasury Department. The last Pontiac rolled off the line 11 months ago at a plant just north of Detroit.

It’s been a slow death for the brand, which once was an icon for muscle cars. There was the GTO and the Firebird Trans Am. At one point, Pontiac was America’s No. 3 brand, behind Chevy and Ford.
