Today’s show marked the beginning of a weeklong series about the job market in America. Scott Tong reported from Raleigh, where an hourglass economy is offering jobs at both the top and bottom, but little for the middle-class and non-college-educated. Money is also short at many state colleges, with federal stimulus money running out. Faculty jobs and degree programs are in danger. Kai talked to Noah Charney, author of “Stealing the Mystic Lamb,” about the most stolen pieces of art. There were also stories about new fuel standards placed on big rigs and the communicators on political campaigns, and Kai spoke to experts on the latest on the foreclosure moratorium. And here were the songs we played:

  • 1517 – The Whitest Boy AliveBuy

  • Spilt Milk – DujeousBuy

  • Charlane’s Allure – Tom DudaBuy

  • Bad Education – Tilly and the WallBuy

  • Already Elsewhere – Six Parts SevenBuy
