In August, Google asked the Commission if they need to include disclaimers in short campaign ads the site features that are at their maximum, 95 characters long. Last week, the FEC said they are exempt, that it’s enough to include the URL of the sponsor that links to the site with the full disclosure. Usually, when a candidate pays for an ad, there has to be language that says “this ad has been paid for by (insert authorized committee here).” Facebook has apparently also written a letter to the FEC arguing the same thing.
