U.S. companies cut more private jobs in September and there’s a growing concern about currency. In retail news, there are signs of a tiny pick up, and Microsoft has opened its fifth store at the Mall of America — across from Apple. Domestically, a new report finds that the latest recession did more harm to city budgets than any other downturn in the last 25 years. And cities turning to states for help may be out of luck.
