We talked this week about the Stuxnet computer worm. It’s a bit of malware that attacks infrastructure system controls as opposed to electronic files. It’s hit Iran’s nuclear facilities the hardest, leading to speculation that Israel might have been involved, also because it’s such a sophisticated piece of malware that experts think it couldn’t have been the work of just one person acting alone. Now, a new clue: the New York Times reports that the word “Myrtus” is hidden in the Stuxnet code, possibly a reference to the book of Esther in which the Jews foil a plot by the Persians to destroy them. Israel is known to have a cyberwar unit within their intelligence service.
