Guess you can’t let Apple have all the fun. Dell announced it will release its own tablet computer called the Streak, a five-inch platform that will run Google’s open-source Android operating system. The technology will first be released in the U.K. next month and will then be available in the U.S.
Neeray Choubey, general manager of the tablets division at Dell, unveiled a sneak preview of Dell’s latest tablet.
Streak distinguishes itself from the iPad and iPhone by landing somewhere in between: It’s being touted as a “data first” machine, though it can be used as a phone; the screen is smaller than an iPad, but larger than an iPhone; it favors desktop-style browsing over mobile site appearances; and it’s not limited by Apple’s closed-system standards.
