Android beating iPhone

….

.

According to NPD, a consumer market research group, Google’s Android phones managed to surpass Apple’s iPhone in sales for the first time last quarter — Android grabbed 28 percent of the smartphone market, as compared to iPhone’s 21 percent.

NPD’s Ross Rubin attributed Android’s success to things like Verizon’s buy-one-get-one-free deals.

Android phones are on all U.S. carriers, and according to an article by Seth Weintraub, Verizon has sold Motorola Droids fast and furious, and this summer, Sprint will launch the HTC EVO, which is expected to be on the market right before iPhone introduces its new model.

But in the end, Blackberry still rules, according to NPD, which bases its numbers on self-reported online consumer surveys.
