Sure, the Consumer Financial Protection Agency is the subject of a great deal of debate this week. What I didn’t expect is that it would become the subject of comedy.

But those ex-Saturday Night Live folks at Funny or Die have turned their sense of humor into a comedy sketch in favor of an independent CFPA.

There’s some serious star-power behind it. The director is Ron Howard. And all the SNL cast members who portrayed presidents are back: Will Ferrell as George W. Bush, Fred Armisen as Barack Obama, Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton, Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford, Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter, Dana Carvey as George H.W. Bush, and Jim Carrey as Ronald Reagan. Maya Rudolph plays Michelle Obama.

I’d give it a PG-13 rating.

Funny or Die’s Presidential Reunion from Will Ferrell

Back in the real world, this one-liner pretty much sums up the opposition to having the CFPA under the Federal Reserve’s roof:

Placing a weakened CFPA within the Fed could be like putting the Food and Drug Administration inside, say, Pfizer.
