John Mackey on Whole Foods’ growth

Education: Studied philosophy at the University of Texas in Austin, but dropped out of college six times.

What you may not know: Although Mackey is otherwise vegan, he eats eggs from the free-range, organic-fed chickens he raises.

Personal: Mackey and his wife, Deborah, live on a 720-acre ranch west of Austin, Texas. They practice yoga and meditation.
