Bringing back Orville Redenbacher

Orville Redenbacher died over a decade ago, but ConAgra is introducing a new popcorn ad that features a digitized likeness of the bow-tied icon of Americana.

TEXT OF STORY

SCOTT JAGOW: Let’s take a ride in the way-back machine, shall we? We’ll set the dial to 1976.

[ Commercial: “Hello, I’m Orville Redenbacher from Valparaiso, Indiana and this is 4 ounces of my Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Popping Corn.” ]

This was Orville Redenbacher’s first commercial.

He died in 1995, but the company that makes his popcorn is bringing him back to the television.

ConAgra Foods will roll out a new ad during the Golden Globe Awards Monday night. It’s a digital recreation of this 30-year-old spot.

[Commercial: “Look at mine! It’s blowing the top right off the popper. My Gourmet Popping Corn pops up lighter and fluffier than ordinary corn. Eats better too.” ]

Or his name isn’t Orville Redenbacher.
