When Caitlin Boston asked for a raise, her boss gave her a hard "no." Then she made it her mission to figure out what she was worth … and to get paid. Plus: We discuss how you can figure out your worth, too.

If asking your boss for a raise is hard, getting rejected is even worse.

But for Caitlin Boston, things got truly awkward when she later found out some white colleagues were making more than her and other women of color at their company.

On today’s show, we’re going to take a deep dive into one of the most uncomfortable parts of any job: salary negotiation. Because it’s about a lot more than just taking home a bigger check — it’s about knowing your worth.

Three years later, Boston is at a new job, making what she asked for; a salary much higher than she ever expected to be asking for. Today, we’ll look at how she did it.

Later, negotiation expert Carrie Menkel-Meadow will guide us through the best way to have the salary conversation.
