SHORT BIO

Rob Abid is the former senior producer of Marketplace Morning Report and Marketplace Tech Report. Abid has spent his entire professional career in public radio. Since 2009, he worked as the senior producer of Marketplace Morning Report, which helps an audience of nearly 6 million people to navigate the thicket of business and economics. Abid also produced and managed the start-up of Marketplace Index with David Brancaccio.

Prior to joining the Marketplace team, Abid spent eight years as the producer of NPR’s comedy quiz show Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! His most notable memory included arranging an interview with then-Senator Barack Obama in 2005. During his tenure, Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! grew from a studio-based show with an audience of 500,000 listeners to a weekly live event with an audience of 2.6 million listeners and more than a million podcast downloads per month. During Abid’s tenure at the show, Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! was awarded a Peabody Award in 2008.

From 1988 to 1998, Abid worked at NPR producing and directing “… every single program that NPR news produces.” His range of responsibilities included directing the overnight shift at Morning Edition for 11 years. Abid’s work helped win NPR an Overseas Press Club Award in 1999 for reporting work in the former Yugoslavia in the mid- and late 1990s.

A native of St. Louis, Abid holds a bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Missouri and now lives in Los Angeles.  In his free time, he enjoys traveling and napping.
