The Trump administration could threaten federal funding for hospitals if they provide gender-affirming care for trans youth.

In December, the Department of Health and Human Services proposed a new rule that would ban hospitals from receiving any Medicare and Medicaid funding if they offer gender-affirming care for minors. Today, Kimberly checks in with Marketplace’s Samantha Fields to hear about her reporting on how this is affecting health care providers across the country. Plus, we’ll get into how the proposed rule fits into a larger wave of restrictions on transgender health care, years in the making.
Here’s everything we talked about today:
"Trump is trying to end gender-affirming care for trans kids. Doctors and nurses are working hard to keep offering it." from Marketplace
"A family fled Texas to protect their transgender child. They’re still afraid." from Marketplace
"In major effort to end gender-affirming care, Trump administration takes aim at hospitals" from Stat News
White House statement: "Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation"
