Amir Bibawy

New York bureau chief and senior editor

SHORT BIO

I am the New York bureau chief for Marketplace where I run a team of talented reporters reporting on trade, taxes, consumer behavior, macroeconomic issues and, of course, Wall Street. I also buy the bureau fresh Brooklyn bagels every Friday.

What do you think is the hardest part of your job that no one knows?

I wish the audience knew how long it takes the Marketplace reporters and editors to shave off three seconds of a story to make it fit in a time slot.

Fill in the blank: Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you ______.

Watches!

What’s your most memorable Marketplace moment?

We interviewed a woman during the government shutdown who was struggling with her vet bills because she wasn't paid. Her dogs were called Daisy and … Daisy, because she adopted them and they had already been named. It was such a fun moment for the listener in the middle of a lot of grim news about people not being paid because of the shutdown.

What’s the favorite item in your workspace and why?

An autographed picture of Jodie Foster from “The Silence of the Lambs” — my favorite movie.
