The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for regulating between 75 and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S., overseeing lots of things: the apple you take to work, your kid’s baby formula and even your dog’s food. But during this shutdown, many inspections aren’t happening. Marketplace’s Andy Uhler breaks down what furloughed employees mean for our food safety.
