What’s Merriam-Webster’s word of the year for 2016?

“Surreal.”

The dictionary publishers said, in a release, that searches for the word peaked three noticeable times throughout the year — the largest and latest surge was right after the 2016 U.S. election.

Other words in the running included “Bigly” and “deplorables”.
