Jim Gilliam, the founder of election software business NationBuilder, is used to working with people with whom he disagrees.

The self-described internet geek and former documentarian was inspired by progressive political movements of the past to equalize the playing field for political candidates — using the candidate’s data and their own software, NationBuilder connects leaders with an audience via social media.

Unlike many other political software businesses, NationBuilder doesn’t limit itself to clients within any one party. The software has been used most notably by Donald Trump, but also by supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders, by the Scottish National Party and many others.

To hear the full interview with NationBuilder’s Jim Gilliam, tune in using the player above.
