Yup, women make just 79 percent of what men do in the U.S. Now, the Obama administration is aiming to take the issue head on. As the New York Times reports, the administration has proposed to collect information on employees’ gender and salaries from companies with more than 100 employees.

That’s the age at which citizens of the UK become exempt from a national tax known as a license fee. The BBC, which depends on that funding to cover costs, has been in financial trouble lately. In fact, its considering a plan in which it asks its oldest viewers to voluntarily pay the fee to help with costs.

That’s how many companies Xerox will split into — one will run hardware like printers and fax machines and the other would be the services division. Forty percent of revenue will still come from the company’s document management segment.

That’s how much of a new kind of pavement is made up of steel shavings and other industrial waste products. Designed by civil engineer Chris Tuan, the material could prove very useful for the streets of east coast cities. Why’s that? Because when connected to a power source, the pavement generates enough heat to melt snow. As The Atlantic writes, it’s currently being tested by the FAA to see if it could be used for airport tarmacs.
