A $1 million gun, made from a meteorite

Rare gun collectors should start saving up, because luxury handgun maker Cabot Guns just announced their “extra-terrestrial pistols,” which will be forged from the Gibeon meteorite.

The likely price tag? A cool $1 million.

Cabot has been called the Rolls Royce of gun makers, and the company’s clients include celebs like Kid Rock and Joe Mantegna.

Cabot founder and President Rob Bianchin told CNNMoney, “It hasn’t been done before and that’s the kind of thing that drives me. I think it’s fair to state many of the pistols we have constructed border on art.”

They’re calling it the Big Bang pistol set, and it’ll be crafted from a 35-kilogram piece of the Gibeon meteorite, which was found in Namibia in the 1830s. The Gibeon crashed to Earth approximately 4.5 billion years ago.

The Big Bang set will be two semiautomatic .45 caliber pistols made the 1911 style, which was the standard issue U.S. Army gun for nearly 90 years.

Bianchin has compared working with the meteorite to a science experiment, and says he feels like they’re finally on their way to constructing a functional left- and right-handed pistol. The pistols are expected to be sold at auction.

If the $1 million price tag is too steep for you, you can always check out the pieces of Gibeon meteorite selling on eBay. Those chunks go for anywhere from 11 bucks to $455.20.
