Live from New York … it’s a very controversial host

So far, the race for the presidency has already provided a good amount of must-see television (“Your damn emails,” for example). But the most controversial event may be ahead, as Donald Trump hosts Saturday Night Live this weekend. The announcement has been met with resistance from many people, including groups who take issue with Trump’s stance on immigration.

As Vice reported, a political action committee called “Deport Racism,” is offering a $5000 reward to anyone who disrupts the live show — if more than one person acts, they will split the money. And over at ColorofChange.org, a petition is asking NBC to pull the plug on Saturday’s show. On the website, it says, “by selecting Donald Trump as a host, they legitimize Trump’s campaign rhetoric – which is rooted in racism and fear-mongering – and make the real-world violence he incites against people of color a laughing matter.”

For its part, NBC has remained mostly silent on the controversy — a joke referring to Dr. Ben Carson as a “total loser” was quietly removed from the promo reel released Wednesday. Other than that, NBC seems to be forging ahead with the show as planned.

And at least one person will be watching. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Hillary Clinton said she will watch the show.

Marketplace reached out to NBC for comment, but as of this writing there has been no response.
