This final note on the way out today. No Marketplace angle, really, just a number, in light of the shooting at Umpqua Community College up in Oregon this afternoon.

According to the website shootingtracker.com (which uses a different measure than the FBI does in its tally), there have been 294 mass shootings in this country so far this year.

That works out to more than one a day, every single day of the year.

“I think the best compliment I can give is not to say how much your programs have taught me (a ton), but how much Marketplace has motivated me to go out and teach myself.” – Michael in Arlington, VA
