Quintron (born Robert Rolston) is an organ player, instrument builder and inventor. Through many trials and errors, for the better part of a decade, Quintron has been inventing the Weather Warlock. The machine uses a series of sensors mounted outside, runs them through a sound board and then turns them into tones, he explains from the Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans’ 9th Ward. The Weather Warlock, completed in streams live at Weather for the Blind.
Quintron says that the machine makes it possible to hear the weather outside. The site is called “weather for the blind” in reference to a circadian rhythm sleep disorder that is suffered by many sight impaired persons. Quintron has said that he hopes that the sounds produced by the Weather Warlock might be used by people experiencing any type of sleep disorder that might benefit from a direct musical connection to nature. Or, anywhere you find yourself without windows.
The Weather Warlock was completed in 2014 in Captiva, Florida, at the Robert Rauschenberg residency program. The live streaming site was launched in early 2015.
Quintron’s U.S. tour dates with the Weather Warlock can be found on his website.
