Your shrimp is probably from overseas

That’s about how much of the shrimp eaten by Americans is shipped from overseas. But it didn’t always used to be that way. As Bloomberg reports, back before aqua-farming was developed, shrimp was still considered a delicacy. But as Asian and Latin American markets adopted the technology to breed pathogen-free shrimp, the global supply exploded, changing the supply chain of shrimp in the U.S.

That’s how much the city of Baltimore will pay to the family of Freddie Gray, who suffered spinal cord injuries that eventually led to his death from his arrest in April . The sum will be paid over a two-year period. As the Baltimore Sun reports, that’s more than the sum of the (at least) 120 other cases since 2011 against the Baltimore police department in relation to “brutality and misconduct.”

That’s how much China’s global exports dropped in August, according to new data out Tuesday. It’s the second consecutive month that number has dropped. But some economists are more troubled by the dramatic decrease in imports, which are down 13.8 percent from last year. The slowing demand for iron and aluminum signals trouble for China’s industry and construction.
