German publication Der Spiegel reports on just how far the National Security Agency might be going to build back doors into technology for surveillance in a story about a division called Tailored Access Operations, or TAO. The elite group of government hackers apparently intercepted packages carrying gear, like servers and computer parts, to install special monitoring equipment.
