As it turns out, some Americans will be forced to switch health care plans because of the Affordable Care Act. Jonathan Gruber, professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who helped design Obamacare, joins David Brancaccio to discuss.

Among the 5 to 6 percent of Americans who purchase their own health insurance, about half will need to make the switch to Obamacare. Gruber says those folks have sub-par plans. So for some, Obamacare could cost more money. For the older and sicker, it could actually be a better deal.

“I urge listeners to … go online and compare, and in particular take into account the tax credits, which may leave them paying less than they are today,” Gruber said.
