On November 11th, Google plans to make a significant change to the way it displays advertisements online. And that change involves putting your face in ads if you’ve rated products with your Google account connected.
This isn’t the first policy of its kind — Facebook recently announced its own plans to use the power of a friend’s suggestion when it comes to hawking goods. But people aren’t happy with Google’s move.
Some are even replacing their profile pictures with that of Google head Eric Schmidt. Todd Wasserman, business editor for Mashable, has the latest on the story.
In a blog post, Google wrote:
“So your friends, family and others may see your Profile name and photo, and content like the reviews you share or the ads you +1’d. … This only happens when you take an action (things like +1’ing, commenting or following) –- and the only people who see it are the people you’ve chosen to share that content with.”
