This final note on the show, a reminder that 800,000 federal workers are furloughed as of today. They work at national parks, monuments, museums, NASA’s TV channel, offices that give food to low-income women and kids and aid to veterans.

Many businesses, in D.C. and around the country, have taken to giving furloughed workers discounts or freebies, like free cupcakes, minor league baseball tickets, or a sandwich at Pork Barrel Barbecue in Del Ray, Va.

One stipulation on that last one: no members of Congress.
