Beware the bite-size bonanza!
Candy companies Mars and Hershey are trying to bite-size everything.
Mars is about to start releasing Snickers Bites, following Hershey’s ‘bitesize-ification’ of its chocolate drops, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kats. (To candy afficianados, it’s really just an expansion of their mini empire of Hershey’s Kisses and Rolos.)
Also, Snickers Bites will be sold unwrapped and in a resealable bag.
Why no wrapper? Well, apparently for people to unwrap candy demands patience, and we all know that patience is for losers and non-teenagers.
Plus this specific ‘bite-size’ version is better for parties. (But not so much for Halloween, right? What parent is going to allow their trick or treater to grab unwrapped candy?).
Not that I have any experience in this matters, but I’d also like to posit a guess as to why we’re being overrun by bite sizes: People feel guilty about eating entire whole candy bars. We’d rather eat a dozen tiny ones. In the same way that I will eat one cookie in asymptotically smaller pieces, to alleviate postpone my guilt at having completely defied my diet.
