What Google search can tell you about the stock market

New research has found a link between Google search terms and the stock market. In other words, check out what people are searching for and then buy or sell. In particular, watch for the terms “debt”, “portfolio” and “stocks”. As searches for those words went up, the Dow Jones went down and vice versa.

Tobias Preis, one of the researchers at Warwick Business School in the UK who conducted the study, joins Marketplace Morning Report host Jeremy Hobson to explain.
