This final note today, sending us into the weekend with some context for the Dow’s close above 14,000.

The last time the blue chips were this high — October 2007 — turns out Beyonce was in the news back then, too. Her song “Irreplaceable” was number one that year. Ryan Gosling too — he’s in “Gangster Squad” now; back in 2007, his film was “Lars and the Real Girl.”

Some things don’t change that much. But yeah, times were different back then. Concrete things: The unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in October 2007. Apple stock five years ago closed at just $167.25 a share.

And after that…. the bust.
