iRobot CEO Colin Angle on the future of robots

This year marks the 10th birthday of the Roomba. The iRobot company has since sold more that six million of the little disc shaped vacuums. In the meantime, there have also been robots to scrub your floors, flush your gutters and clean your pool.

But the company’s always had a vision beyond removing household grime. And iRobot’s CEO, Colin Angle, has been outspoken in trying to push his entire industry to let go of pop culture C-3PO imaginings and let specialized robots take a practical role in our lives.

“These types of things can be accomplished today at prices we can afford,” says Angle, “If you can narrow your focus and say ‘OK, I can’t have Rosie from the Jetsons, but can I have my floors vaccuumed, I can have my floors cleaned.”
