This final note today, a nod to those who say the economy is going to the dogs.

We bring you now -- courtesy of the market research firm Euromonitor International -- the Dog Index. It tracks the percentage change in the number of dogs in a given country in the past five years and makes an admittedly loose correlation between that and the rate of economic development.

According to the dog index, India's number one. Dogs up 58 percent in the past 5 years. Switzerland's last.

There's way more data on The Atlantic's website.

“I think the best compliment I can give is not to say how much your programs have taught me (a ton), but how much Marketplace has motivated me to go out and teach myself.” – Michael in Arlington, VA
