Amazon Instant now on iPad

John Moe Aug 2, 2012

Okay, this is one of those subtext kind of stories. Like you know those short stories where someone passes the potatoes but it really means they hate you? Besides short stories, that also works in Scandinavian families, by the way.
Anyway, Amazon is now offering its streaming video application on the iPad. It’s the same capability that was already being offered on the Amazon Kindle where it’s one of the main selling points.
So you could look at this as the iPad now being able to do the main thing a Fire is famous for doing. And presumably this also means that next month’s seemingly inevitable iPad Mini will be able to do everything a Kindle Fire does plus a bunch of things the iPad does for about the same price.
BUT! Amazon offers a rental option that’s awfully similar to iTunes and could be a formidable competitor. So essentially Coke just started selling Pepsi at its headquarters.
It also means that Netflix is losing its novelty status pretty quickly as this week alone we’ve seen Hulu Plus move on to the Apple TV and now iPad has Amazon Instant.
