Microsoft Office 15 premieres Monday

John Moe Jul 13, 2012

A new version of the ubiquitous software is set to debut on Monday, according to several sources.

Microsoft Office is, to Microsoft, a suite of software that prints money. Not literally (unless there are macros on Excel I don’t know about) but figuratively: have you ever worked in an office that didn’t have Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on every desk? No. And Microsoft gets paid for each of those installations. It’s worked out well for the company and mitigates losses like the Kin phone and the Windows Phone.

Google, however, is trying to elbow in on that territory with office productivity software of its own. So there’s a lot at stake for this latest batch.

From USA Today:

Key advances are likely to come in Office 15’s capacity to mesh with the Surface tablets, Microsoft’s challenger to the dominant Apple iPad, and in hooking Office 15 into Microsoft’s free Internet-accessible services, says Wesley Miller, analyst at technology research firm Directions on Microsoft.

Hopefully, for all our sake, Clippy is not involved.
